Kiernan Award.

This award is presented annually in memory of a beloved past president.

When considering a nominee, the following criteria should be considered and met.
The nominee should:

  • Be a present or past PTA member
  • Be currently or previously a key volunteer in the Fairfield Public Schools
  • Be involved significantly in the betterment of our youth and schools
  • Have made a system-wide contribution to further education in Fairfield

Applications may be obtained on the Fairfield Public Schools website, and the PTA Council website.

A curriculum document outlines the standards for what students are expected to know and be able to do at a given grade level. The curriculum is not to be confused with a resource (textbook/program) or instruction. Below are the guiding questions:

1. Questions relating to the Curriculum Documents

  1. To what extent do you find evidence of the development of math concepts, skills, and fluencies within the curriculum documents?
  2. Using a variety of mathematical representations allows students illustrate their understanding in a way that makes best sense individually. To what extent do you find evidence that students investigate a variety of strategies to find solutions to problems?
  3. To what degree do you find evidence of the increased difficulty as students’ progress through the various courses?
  4. After reviewing the curriculum documents, what is the difference between content standards and practice standards?

2. Questions Relating to Feedback

  1. What are the positive aspects of these draft curriculum documents?
  2. What are areas that need to be improved on these draft curriculum documents?
  3. Any other feedback you can provide the district?
  4. What needs to be emphasized/communicated to the BOE about these curriculum documents?
