Letter to Retailers

Posted on September 21, 2018 | Fairfield PTAC

PTA Members,

On September 21, 2018  I handed three local retailers this letter on behalf of the Fairfield PTA Council insisting that they stop illegally selling JUUL/vaping/eCigarettes to underage minors. I hope that other groups in town will follow us at PTAC. Many thanks to Fairfield Cares for keeping us all informed and to the FDA for catching them red handed.

Dear Retailer:

We, the Fairfield PTA Coucil (PTAC) insist that you stop selling JUUL and other vaping/e-cigarette products to children under the legal purchasing age of 18 years old. Recently the FDA released a list of 1,300 retailers nationwide who were caught selling these products to underage minors. Your business’ name is on that list.

PTAC represents 17 school PTAs in the town of Fairfield, with 10,000 children and families. Fairfield’s schools have done much to combat the epidemic of underage JUUL usage through changes to its physical plant, educational programming and administrative action. We applaud those efforts and want to see them succeed.

That some retailers in our community would violate not only the law by selling to underage minors but also the spirit of keeping these products confined to the hands of adults is unacceptable to us.

We intend to enlist the help of our families in town to make sure that JUUL and other vaping and e-cigarette products are not distributed to our children and, where they are, we have asked to be alerted to it so that we can alert the parents of our town’s 10,000 school children.

We ask that you do your part to educate your workforce. We insist that you do your part by not selling to anyone under the legal purchasing age.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Trabuco
President, PTAC
